AlphaFold produces a per-residue confidence score (pLDDT) between 0 and 100. Some regions with low pLDDT may be unstructured in isolation.
Low-frequency RNA-Seq exon junction(s) not annotated.

There is only one protein coding transcript and one polypeptide associated with this gene
1477 (aa); 163 (kD predicted)
The predicted l(3)mbt protein shows no significant similarity to known proteins. The N-terminal half is especially proline-rich (12%). A new motif called an mbt repeat, and a new C2/C2 type zinc finger was predicted by sequence analysis.

The testis specificity index was calculated from modENCODE tissue expression data by Vedelek et al., 2018 to indicate the degree of testis enrichment compared to other tissues. Scores range from -2.52 (underrepresented) to 5.2 (very high testis bias).

Please Note This section lists cDNAs and ESTs that fall within the genomic extent of the gene model, which may include cDNAs and ESTs of genes within introns, or of overlapping genes. Please see JBrowse for alignment of the cDNAs and ESTs to the gene model.
For each fully sequenced cDNA the DGRC maintains various forms of the cDNA (e.g tagged or untagged) in several different host vectors for subsequent cloning and expression in Drosophila and Drosophila cell lines.

l(3)mbt inhibits neuroepithelial proliferation in the developing optic lobe.
dsRNA has been made from templates generated with primers directed against this gene. RNAi of l(3)mbt causes dorsal overextension of primary dendrites in ddaD and ddaE neurons. For such neurons, the most distal branchpoint is located 25 microns or further from the distal tip of the primary dendrite. However, branching of these dendrites is reduced. RNAi also causes defects in muscle and defects in dendrite morphogenesis.
l(3)mbt is a temperature-dependent tumor suppressor gene. Deletion strains at normal temperatures show lethality of males but viability of (sterile) females with variable defects of the wings. Raising at 29oC leads to 100% larval lethality and enormous brain tumors.
l(3)mbt gene is identified, sequenced and is shown to encode a putative Pro-rich protein of 1477 amino acids with a novel zinc finger.
Mutants display a brain neoplastic phenotype.
